How to create sustainable urban food systems and develop smart local economy in Tukkutori? Join the 24h brainstorm for Helsinki sustainable food revolution!
Climathon is a 24-hour hackathon engaging citizens on climate action. In October 2018 in cities around the world people gather to create innovative solutions for more sustainable urban future.
Helsinki challenge is to develop the Tukkutori and Teurastamo district, an old wholesale and warehouse area located in the heart of Helsinki, to become a sustainable and commercially viable urban food hub. Help the city of Helsinki in creating sustainable urban food systems in the pilot area and in developing smart local economy in food retail and consumption.
The City of Helsinki has a set a target to become a carbon neutral city by the end of 2035. There is a great potential to make an impact by creating new innovations for urban food systems including solutions for production, consumption, retail, waste management and energy. The city want’s to develop the Tukkutori/Teurastamo district into a pilot area for sustainable urban food systems and local economy. Helsinki climate action can also contribute to the creation of new jobs and sustainable businesses.
Helsinki Climathon Challenge 2018: GROWING LOCAL – Creating Tukkutori Sustainable Urban Food Hub
How to develop the Tukkutori and Teurastamo district, an old wholesale, warehouse and abattoir area located in the heart of Helsinki, to become an urban food hub serving the local neighborhoods and the leader for a sustainable food revolution in the whole city?
The Helsinki Climathon challenge in 2018 wants to inspire students, researchers, companies and citizens to think fresh ideas for:
- Sustainable and commercially viable urban farming and food production ecosystems
- Teurastamo/Tukkutori area becoming a well-functioning local economy in food retail and consumption by engaging the local produces and residents, by arranging last mile logistics and by local marketing
When: Friday 26 October 11 AM – Saturday 27 October 11 AM
Where: Aalto University Design Factory, Betonimiehenkuja 5 + site visit to Tukkutori in the afternoon
Food is served for the participants.
Anyone can join alone or as a team!
The winning team will be awarded with a tasty price and will be invited to discuss and develop the idea further with the City of Helsinki. The best ideas can also sign up for the Tukkutori Test Beds innovation challenge of the City of Helsinki in the Ideation category where the best ideas will we awarded with money.
University students can also get a study credit, ask more from the local challenge team and your study coordinator.
